Are you keen to take your dance training to the next level? Do you have an upcoming audition for a full time dance course? Auditions can be daunting, but they don’t have too stressful. Here, Dance Informa speaks with leaders from two new full time course offerings for their top tips on how to get the most out of your audition experience.
Breathe.
“Remember to breathe and try to relax. Everyone wants you to do well, so keep positive”, says Australasian Dance Collective Pre-Professional Program Director Alison Currie.
Connect with your panel.
“It’s important to show that you are able to take on feedback as a full time student, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and make a positive first impression with your audition panel,” shares Scott Pokorny and Tim Barnes, Artistic Directors of SCIMM. Dance Pre-Professional.
It’s ok to make mistakes.
“Making mistakes in an audition is normal and it shows character to be able to make a mistake then keep moving forward without letting it define your whole audition performance,” explains Pokorny and Barnes.
Remain present.
“Remain present to the task or exercise and don’t worry about what comes next, enjoy learning new things and meeting new people, ” says Currie. “You may feel nervous, but remember that excitement can feel the same way. Try and enjoy this feeling and harness that extra energy!”
Preparation is important.
“Prepare well by resting and eating well the night before. Keep hydrated and have small snacks throughout the day,” adds Currie.
